The American Chamber of Commerce Foundation celebrates its 35th anniversary this year. To mark the occasion, the winners of Diversity Impact Awards were honoured at a grand gala ceremony. We are very honoured that our collaboration with the Hintalovon Foundation won a special prize this year. Our colleague Péter Szilas, who is also the project's visionary, received the award in the presence of more than 400 guests, including members, partners, government leaders and representatives from the US Embassy in Budapest, at the event on Friday evening.
Last September we launched our unique training programme with 25 enthusiastic law students. The explicit aim of the programme is to provide practical legal knowledge to the students as complement the theory they learn at university.

After 4 years of experience in Big4 tax advisory firms and a 9-year career at Jalsovszky, Ákos Baráti will continue to lead our tax advisory group as a partner from January. Jalsovszky, Concorde MB Partners, Vállalatépítés.hu and Dutcham organised their traditional autumn firm value conference again this year.
The first half of the first season of Jalsovszky Academy has started. The programme has been extremely popular and well received, we had to select 25 students from 83 applicants to start the course with us. On the very first day, the students were immersed in a very exciting topic: how an M&A transaction goes from term sheet to closing.
Starting in September, we are launching a two-semester, practice-oriented course that supplements theoretical knowledge for university law students under the name Jalsovszky Academy.
Ádám Boross will lead our banking and finance group from August. Ádám, who joins us from Deloitte Legal, has more than 10 years of experience in international law firms. Having worked at Baker & McKenzie, Bird & Bird, Weil, Gotshal & Manges and Deloitte Legal, he has represented clients in complex and, in a significant number of cases, cross-border financing transactions, as well as advised on financial regulatory and compliance matters.
At Jalsovszky, in addition to the daily drive, we are increasingly focusing on supporting socially important causes. As part of this, we have entered into a multi-year agreement to support Hintalovon Child Rights Foundation. Under the agreement, in addition to providing financial support, we will assist the foundation with various legal issues and occasionally get involved in their daily work.
We are honoured that Chambers and Partners, one of the world's most reputable international publications, has once again ranked our Tax practice as a market leader (Tier 1). We are also pleased to have been included in Chambers' list of recommended law firms for our other two key practice areas, M&A and Banking & Finance.
From April, we will be activating a program called Henchman, which can search existing documents in a matter of seconds – arrange, and if necessary, dust off precedents that may have arisen in a contract from years ago. The new program perfectly complements our contract automation process based on Legito’s system and will not only increase the efficiency of our legal work, but will also make the process of writing contracts more enjoyable.

As our staff had gradually increased over the past few years, we outgrew our office space on floor 5 and opened a new office on another floor at the beginning of the year. Our newly designed offices on floor 6 were occupied by our litigation team, who have quickly settled in there.

We recently expanded our market-leading tax team by the arrival of Gergely Czoboly. Before joining us Gergely worked as anexpert at the International Taxation Department of the Ministry of Finance. In his previous job Gergely was the Hungarian delegate to the OECD’s Working Party on Aggressive Tax Planning, also participating at the negotiations of the BEPS and the ATAD directives.
From July, 2020 our capital markets & regulatory group will operate as an independent practice of Jalsovszky. The area of expertise continues to rely on our market-leading finance and banking group, however it will operate as a separate practice area.

Legal500, one of the most prestigious publications that rates law firms around the world, has recently published its rankings for 2020.
We were pleased to see that our Tax practice is still regarded as a market leader. And in 2020 our Real Estate practice was ranked close to the top, as were our M&A and our Banking & Finance practices. It was also gratifying to see that after a year of challenging and successful work, our litigation practice earned a place in the rankings.
Our colleagues are not lazy even in winter time. It is well known that we are sporty and also active in the winter. In mid-January, our ski-loving colleagues slipped to Austria and took the Nassfeld ski slopes, with skis and snowboards on their feet. In four days we skied a total of 114 km and laughed for countless minutes. JalsovSKI you were great, see you next year.
At the gala ceremony held at the end of November, Wolters Kluwer handed out again their annual awards to lawyers and legal teams. We are happy to announce that just like a year ago, our office won again the award of Tax Group of the Year Award. Receiving this prize is a real honour for us, as the panel considered innovation, customer focus, and professionalism as the most important factors to pick the winner in each category.
The prize was awarded to our submission entitled ‘Innovative tax structure for innovative businesses’, submitted by István Csővári and Anilla Gondi.

Community, sport, active relaxation – these were the defining themes of our office sports weekend. This year, it was down to Lake Balaton, where one of our biggest challenges was simply staying upright on our stand-up paddle boards. Not as easy as it looks! But all four of us falling into the water at once was certainly an experience to remember!
We enjoyed the activity, and recommend it to anyone that fancies having fun and literally “chilling out” in a natural setting!
